God bless Edi Patterson. Although The Righteous Gemstones has run its course, after 4 seasons I can whole-heartedly say that Judy Gemstone is one of the funniest characters in television history.
Put her up there right next to Kaitlin Olson from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Lucille Ball from I Love Lucy, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus from Seinfeld. The unfiltered, disgusting, trash-mouthed, Christian adulteress can’t be an easy role to wrap your head around.
Patterson crushes it. She’s cute, funny, manipulative, seething, and ruthless all rolled into one. I’ve compiled a batch of Judy Gemstone’s shining moments, and fair warning, they are anything but Righteous.
