Twenty years ago, America made its first Godzilla film.
It seemed like a sure thing on paper. They had the director of Independence Day, Roland Emmerich. They had a shitload of Sony’s money to spend. They even had the elusive blessing of Toho, which had killed a seemingly endless number of other attempts to make an American Godzilla movie.
It did not go as planned. At all.
