When I was in high school, I wasn’t really into reading comics, but a friend of mine really got me into a handful of graphic novels. The one I was (and still am) obsessed with is Watchmen, so naturally, I wanted to watch the movie. And somehow, to make a long story short, I convinced my whole family not only watch it with me for the first time but watch the three hour director’s cut.
If you’ve seen Watchmen, you know it has one of the most ill-advised sex scenes of all time (it involves the Leonard Cohen song “Hallelujah”). Against all odds, it became one of my dad’s favorite movies, but my mom and my brother were less amused. My brother still calls the movie a “superhero porno” to this day.
In that spirit, here’s a collection of other awkward movie experiences where maybe, just maybe, these people would have been better off watching these movies alone.
